She first made an appearance an actor in 1997 at age 13. Following a series of classes, and working as a background actor for Canadian shows like Road to Avonlea and Harriet the Spy In 1997, she landed her first speaking role in the Canadian kids' horror anthology Goosebumps and Are you afraid of the Dark?, both series that aired in 1997 on YTV. Vandervoort got a role in Smallville which is a series which airs on The CW. The role she plays is Clark Kent's Kryptonian "Kara Kent" as the character who would later be Supergirl.
