Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the top-streamed track within 6 months. The single a mix of reggaeton and pop music did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music more generally. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish languages, while the year in 2016 there were four. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the evolution and development of reggaeton. The genre often incorporated electronic dance and other forms.
